Welcome to the Center for Children’s Literature and Literacy Education (CCLLE) at Yogyakarta State University!
Center for Children’s Literature and Literacy Education (CCLLE) of Yogyakarta State University was established in May 2021 in collaboration with Münster University and DAAD to promote the joy of reading and enhance literacy development among Indonesian children and beyond. It is widely acknowledged that literacy skills are best nurtured from an early age, highlighting the significant role of children’s literature. Regrettably, in Indonesia, the recognition of the transformative power of children’s stories, including picture books and bedtime tales, to cultivate literacy fundamentals remains inadequate. Children’s literature has long suffered from neglect in terms of quality, although recent years have seen some positive developments in Indonesian children’s literary works. Nonetheless, there is still a pressing need for more diverse, engaging, and high-quality literature. CCLLE endeavors to educate individuals closely involved with children to contribute to literacy education through exemplary children’s literature. Its activities encompass educating youth on the importance of children’s literature, inspiring them to craft high-quality literature dedicated to children, and supporting parents and elementary school teachers in fostering children’s love for reading and thereby enhancing literacy skills.

Our Activities includes:
- Children’s Literature Classes: Conducted at the Faculty of Education (FIP) and the Language and Arts Faculty (Sasing).
- The Power Of Picture Book (March 23 and March 30, 2021): A series of webinars discussing the significance of picture books in children’s development. The webinars explored the interplay between words and illustrations, diverse themes, and the complexity of picture books, aiming to challenge children’s literacy skills and nurture their understanding of life. The sessions emphasized the importance of exposing children to diverse themes and complexity in literature to support their intellectual growth.
